Weeknight events shine

The weekend isn’t what it used to be.

According to a 2011 survey in the UK, Thursday is the most popular day to go out on the town; more than 60 percent of all responders said they are most likely to go out on Thursday Eve.

When planning your next company event or party, consider taking that information to heart. While a Friday night event might seem a natural time to host an event, choosing instead to host on a weekday comes with a slew of benefits.

Weekend time is valuable. Especially as the holiday season approaches, people have no shortage of weekend events to attend. Do them a favor and hold your event on a weekday, giving them an extra weekend night to themselves.

Weekend time is expensive. That is, rates for venues and vendors tend to be higher on weekends. Host an event on a weekday and save the difference—or reinvest it in the event to create an even more memorable experience.

Let your party shine. A great party gets everybody talking. Maximize that infusion of energy into the workplace. If the party is on a weeknight, people can come to work the day after and share stories. If the event is on a weekend, conversation on Monday morning will be crowded with tales of football games and kids events.

Do a little something extra. If the event is on a weeknight, end the workday an hour or two early. Or, push back the next day’s start time a few hours. Everyone will appreciate it.

Keep your options open. You want the best food, the best entertainment, the best everything. In addition to being less expensive, the details you want are more likely to be available on weekdays than weekends. Don’t settle for Plan B.
